West Coast Blog Thing

Despite the fact that BlogHer is the pinnacle on my annual social calendar, I'm not going.

Airfare is almost $600, y'all! Plus 3 night hotel plus BlogHer pass at coupla hundred...plus my Master Plan to Become Debt Free.

Can't do it. I will be back in 2010, Goddess willing.

So how about an alternative West Coast Blog weekend? Somewhere airfare-free. I am thinking just a get-together, no panels, no classes, no learning, lots of hugging.

Here are my questions:

1. Same weekend as BlogHer or something different?
2. Where?
3. Would you come?

I have all kinds of crazy ideas rattling in my brain including:
A big cabin that sleeps 35 in Big Bear
Rent a bunch of RVs (or get them comped because we are so cool) and party at some group campsite
The 3 day Ensenada cruise (runs about $400 pp)
Hotel with a big pool/bar area

Any help, suggestions, ideas are appreciated. Christopher, I KNOW you can steer me right!

If you do it a different weekend I AM SO IN!

I have a friend that arranges cruises for groups so if that is the decision I will see what strings I can pull.

Umm... excuse me????

Missy, this was my chance to meet you face to face. You're COMING! If I have to put you up in my place and cook for you and pack you a little lunch with post-its on your PB&J saying "Knock-em-dead at BlogHer"....

We'll work on that airfare!

Different week-end, after the big event so folks attending both (!) can share info from the first event. Sounds like a hoot, whatever you decide to do. Of course I'm in the middle of the country, so there's that pesky airfare thing again. And not a blogger, because of well, we're not sure what that's because of . . . My life is so full of vicarious experiences from all the blogs I read. (Yes, I recognize this as a potential sign of mental illness, but I have to live with me, no sense that the rest of you should.)

I'm not going to BlogHer either (for pretty much the same reasons). Unfortunately, a West Coast meetup wouldn't help me either. Grr.

Well, crap. Getting out of debt is a fantastic goal, though, so I'm not going to try to sway you. Debt sucks, and every dollar to Chase is a dollar to the devil, I firmly believe that. It sucked my energy too (divorce left me sunk!) and when you get close to feeling free of it, it is worth more than a U haul full of swag.

Seriously, I'm definitely going, but I just about cried when I checked out the airfare. It's crazytime.

I'd totally be in for an L.A. BlogHer get together some other time, too!

i think hotel with big pool and bar. that way we can lounge and be comfy and not fucking dirty (camping and shit). plus it will be more relaxed and chilled of an atmosphere and you can still look pretty if you wanna. :)
i will DEF try to make it.

I'd probably go. I don't go to Blogher, except the one time, because it's judt too freaking big.

I like the cruise idea because then i would have a quiet place to retreat.

frick! and i'm actually planning to go to blogher this year. partly it was with the hopes of meeting you. *sigh*

Crap, crap, crap!!!! There's a good chance that airfare will come down between now and then, so I have my fingers crossed.

I wish.

And now you know how freaking expensive it is for us East Coasters to get to Northern California.

Get GM to give you a car and drive to Chicago.

WHA??

No way, you can not be skipping out on me! I agree with Sarah - get GM to loan you a car to drive to BlogHer. Or keep watching flight specials - I just saw a special for $327 from California to Chicago, roundtrip.

You could totally room with me, and we could take on 2 more roommates to keep the costs at a minimum.

Please come talk about blogstalkers with me! (Am I begging enough? Do I need to photos of me begging to further convince you?)

i understand why your not going, but what about being a mic wrangler for a free pass and a car and all that stuff...

i really want to see you again, just being greedy.

I was deeply sad when blogher decided to forgo Portland after getting my hopes up. I am out this year due to having twins in the spring (NO ONE would want to be my roommate given the twins, making the cost/difficulty factor too much to bear). Not sure that even a cal event would be doable, but I think it is a great idea.

Here's wishing she lived on the West Coast instead of the frigid northland!

Hmmm...I'm not sure what weekend it is, but if its in SoCal and I'm free, I would love to come. Where?

Yeah, I am not going either..

1. Different weekend.
3. Yes. (How could West Coast Grrlie Blather not attend West Coast Blog Thing?)

2. Hmmm. Budget first. What is most that folks want to pay for lodging and libation for a weekend? Then, location location location. It would be nice to be somewhere that folks could do for just the day if they wanted (though I love the cruise idea).

I fear this medium is not the best for planning...

Yeah, watch for declines in airfare, and you could also room with me and Mar for free! (I'm booking the hotel using Husband's hotel points.) I'm sort of panicking over this. And thanking goodness that I got to see you twice in December.npo

Different weekend and yes I will come, if the budget is right. I miss you!

cabin on the coast? Ft Bragg? Point Reyes?

Other than that I would vote for a hotel with a good bar......maybe in San Fran so sighseeing could be done. OH! SOMEPLACE IN THE CASTRO!!!

I will be deeply saddened if you are not there, but I'm not going to encourage you to do it if you don't think it's right for you this year. :(

I'm really on the fence about Chicago. I'd love to do a California thing.
